Role Overview:

Metric is looking for a Senior Structural Designer to join our Central Florida Regional office.  This position is responsible for developing and preparing construction plans using computer aided drafting and design (CADD) as well as taking the lead and coordinating the necessary tasks required to complete multiple projects in conformity to scopes of work to include the adherence to budgets and schedules. They will also ensure that plan preparation follows the appropriate design criteria, procedures and guidelines.

Day-to-Day:
  • Utilizes a CAD workstation to prepare engineering drawings consisting of basic arrangements, layouts, flow sheets, assemblies, isometrics, from rough sketches and/or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures.
  • Directs the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for complex projects
  • Develops design of bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, drainage structures and other transportation related miscellaneous structures
  • Prepares structural design calculations, final bridge design plans, Special Provisions, and estimates for bridges of substantial complexity in accordance with AASHTO specifications and FDOT standards
What you should bring:
  • 5+ years of experience designing complex, major and minor structures, including prestressed beam bridges with pile supported substructure, Mechanically Stabilized Embankment (MSE) wall envelopes and overhead and cantilever sign structure designs
  • 5+ years of Microstation experience
  • Overall knowledge of project deliverables & management methodologies
  • Bridge and miscellaneous structures experience
  • Knowledge of FDOT electronic delivery
  • Excellent communication and coordination with other disciplines and clients
Preferred:
  • 10+ years of experience in the above categories
  • FDOT experience and CAD manual knowledge
  • Proficient in 3D modeling (PDS, Bentley, Plant 3D 2012, LFM, or SP3D)
  • Capable of managing and overseeing beginner level designers
