Role Overview:

This position applies knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Tolling Operations technology to support integration activities on transportation technology related project deployments. Support includes the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of all transportation technology and equipment. Transportation technology includes all equipment related to the ITS, Tolling Operations or the Traffic Signal Network. Equipment may include Layer 2 switches, network equipment, communication cables, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Vehicle Detection Systems (VDS), Highway Advisory Radios (HAR), Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), Travel Time Systems (TTS), Wireless Access Points (WAP), Electronic Tolling Equipment (ETC), Toll Amount DMS (TADMS) or traffic signal controllers. These technologies may be deployed on government agency projects such as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Local County or City or Expressway Authorities. This position is expected to carry out major job functions within, project-oriented, multidisciplinary teams of Technology professionals and supports direct interaction with clients within the context of project progress meetings, design reviews, and project integration and system acceptance testing.
 

Day-to-Day:
  • Complete assignments as direct by the Integration Project Manager or project lead.
  • Relies on limited experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. 
  • Works under general supervision.
  • Typically reports to a project leader or manager.
  • Performs a variety of tasks. Primary job functions require a certain degree of creativity and latitude. 
  • Apply general ITS and Tolls engineering and planning principles to solve specific ITS and Toll related problems. 
  • Assists with the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of layer 2 switches, cabinet devices and cables on technical integration projects with the support of the Senior Network Engineer to ensure optimum network usage & quality.  
  • Assist with troubleshooting and testing of ITS, Tolls and traffic signalization cabinet devices including UPS, device servers,MMU, and other signal Field equipment.
  • Will be expected to assist with the development and/or review of ITS device test plans and procedures as well as reviewing OTDR test results and tracking logs.
  • Review and interpret production plans for integration projects.
  • Performs standard testing processes on a variety of equipment and documents all testing results and procedures as required.
  • Will be cross trained to perform construction engineering inspection (CEI) support duties 
  • Installs, configure and troubleshoot workstations, servers and software on a case-by-case basis.


What you should bring: 
  • Associate's degree in a related area and 3 – 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the ITS or Tolling operations field and exposure to information and communication technologies, including fiber optic communication, video systems engineering, traveler information, electronic payment and traffic control systems. 
  • Knowledge of the Florida Department of Transportation policies, specifications and a variety of ITS & Tolling field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of layer 2 network.
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic technology as it relates to ITS, traffic signal and Tolling equipment deployments.
 

      Certifications: This position requires the candidate to have or have the ability to acquire the specified certification within one year of the hire date or acceptance of this position: IMSA Level I & Intermediate MOT
